Right view of a left atrium and ventricle section, separated by the mitral valve; in this case it can be observed its anterior leaflet (AMV). This is a simulation of one strategy of left atrium appendage occlusion procedure.
We try always –during a mitral valve procedure- to close the left atrial appendage with a pericardial patch. Note in (1) the left circumflex artery and its scaring proximity to the mitral annulus and the ostium of the left atrial appendage. Care should be taken in cardiac surgery with the placement of a prosthesis.
